Join us for this fun afternoon workshop, led by Haudenosaunee artisan Susan Hill, where you'll learn how to make your very own moccasins.
About this Event

Join us as we wrap up “Rock Your Mocs” week with a fun and engaging moccasin-making workshop led by Haudenosaunee artisan Susan Hill. By the end of the session, you’ll leave with some new skills and your very own pair of handcrafted moccasins.

Over the course of the afternoon, Susan will guide participants step-by-step through the process of piecing and sewing their moccasins using pre-cut buffalo or moose hide (hides will be either black, brown, or tan, depending on the colour that Susan can source).

Create a pair for yourself, or make a meaningful gift for someone special. These would make a wonderful Christmas present!

NOTE: When you register, please be sure to indicate your shoe size in US sizes, and whether they are Men's, Women's or Children's, so the moccasin components can be pre-cut to size.

REGISTRATION CLOSES ON OCTOBER 31st! Reservations are required as space is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot today!

Cost: $100 per person, plus HST (includes all materials and instruction). Tickets are also available for in-person purchase at McDougall Cottage during its hours of operation.

Indigenous members of the community will receive a discounted workshop fee by using the code "Rockmocs".

Museum Members receive a 10% discount with code "Memcode".

Museum Volunteers receive a 10% discount with code "Volcode".

Susan is a Haudenosaunee artisan and member of the Cayuga Nation living in Ohsweken on Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. She is self-taught in making moccasins and was mentored by her mother Millie throughout her years of beading. Susan is the sole proprietor of Hill's Creations with over 25 years of experience.
