Aug 9 Leaf Critter Ceramics

Young artists will explore hands-on techniques by sculpting ceramic forest animals infused with live cacti or succulents.

Sep 13 Clue Live Action

In a collective daze of confused memories, the host of the afternoon festivities, Mr. MOCA, has gone missing, and every attendee is a suspect. Who kidnapped him, in which room, and with what tool? Step into this life-sized game board, where students must use the art of deduction to uncover the culprit in this live-action game of Clue. Trust no one, not even yourself.

Oct 11 Monstrous Masks

It’s the season of spooks and treats, when boys and girls of every age long to become something strange, with teeth ground sharp, eyes glowing red, fingers like snakes, and spiders in their hair. It is the spirit of Halloween and students will craft large-scale monstrous masks with ghoulish faces and vibrant designs. Each mask will be a visual celebration of imagination, craftsmanship, and all things Hallow’s Eve.

Nov 8 Minecraft Fabrication

In this class activity, students will learn how to fabricate armor and crafting tools inspired by the world of Minecraft. Using simple materials like paper, scissors, and tape, they will create fully wearable items, such as diamond-studded costumes and prop pickaxes, for imaginative roleplay. Students will sharpen their stationery skills and ability to craft endless possibilities.

Dec 13 Screen Printing

Draw, collage, and ink! Students will explore the experimental art form of screen printing. Instructors will guide them through the process of transferring winter themed imagery into decorative holiday artwork.

About MOCA

The Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville (MOCA) is the only museum in Northeast Florida dedicated to contemporary art. MOCA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a Cultural Institute of the University of North Florida. The museum serves the community and its visitors through exhibitions, collections, educational programs, and publications designed to enhance an understanding and appreciation of contemporary art with particular emphasis on works created from 1960 to the present.

Located in the heart of historic Downtown Jacksonville, MOCA is one of the city’s most significant cultural assets. Among the most prominent contemporary art museums in the Southeast, MOCA’s exhibitions and programs set the pace for arts and art-integrated programming on a regional and national stage. Renowned in this community, MOCA casts the spotlight on Jacksonville as a burgeoning, vital arts destination.

The museum is also a cornerstone of Jacksonville’s multibillion-dollar downtown revitalization plan with exhibitions and programs that bring new visitors to the civic core during the day, at night, and on weekends.
