Making Mill City

Bob Frame, Keynote Speaker

This year’s annual meeting presentation features Bob Frame, best known to MNSAH members as the MNSAH Treasurer, but featured here as the author of the just-released Making Mill City – Flour and Fortune in Minneapolis, published by the University of Minnesota Press.

In Making Mill City, Bob narrates the rise and decline of Minneapolis as the flour-milling capital of the world. From the 1870s to the Great Depression, Minneapolis flour mills produced more flour than any other mills anywhere. For decades, the Washburn A Mill on the west side of St. Anthony Falls, and the Pillsbury A Mill on the east side, were the world’s largest flour mills.
