Rebellious, adamant, gifted, Amy Winehouse was - first and foremost - a jazz singer. This often gets lost within the scope of her enormous pop stardom, her tempestuous love life and substance-abuse problems. If we really want to understand how Amy Winehouse died, we need to look at how she lived...
Amy Winehouse – The Diva and her Demons unpacks the brief and impactful life of this once-in-a-generation talent who captured the imagination of both the mainstream pop chart and lovers of the timeless soul music of yesteryear. This award-winning cautionary tale/tribute show features 12 of Amy’s hits acoustically interpreted for the live trio, Misery Loves Company - Kerry Hiles (bass), Rob Thompson (guitar) and Kristo Zondagh (drums).
Please note: explicit language warning. Run time: 70 minutes.
We have found there to be an interest by fellow musicians and industry professionals to host a Q&A session regarding our experiences as a full-time touring group. We will be hosting this session on Thu 30 Jan at the Music Kitchen and extend the invitation to High School and Tertiary music departments, with the eye to equipping future music stars with a realistic outlook regarding this career choice. Discounted scholar/student rates are R50pp, and must be booked by making contact with Kerry on 082 327 0627, to ensure seating. The show is suitable for all ages but carries a strong language advisory. The Music Kitchen in Newton Park is a family-friendly licensed venue and staff will be asking for IDs at the bar. There is a delicious menu available.
