Come and Learn Scottish Country Dance!
Join the Fun, Fitness, and Friendship offered by Scottish Country Dance (SCD)! SCD is the social and ballroom dance of Scotland that is danced ALL OVER THE WORLD! It is historical (dates back to the 17th Century), it is contemporary (new dances written daily), it is an ancestor to US dance forms like Contra and Square Dancing, it is international*, and it is evolving!
· Nope, you don't need to be Scottish!
· Nope, you don't need a partner!
· Nope, you don't need previous dance experience!
· Nope, you don't need a kilt or any Scottish attire!
· Yes, you and your friends can dance together!
· Yes, all are welcome! Introvert friendly.
· Yes, you need soft-soled shoes
· Yes, bring a water bottle.
The Milwaukee Scottish Country Dancers (MkeSCD) is offering weekly SOCIAL DANCE classes in the gym of the Zao Mke Church: 2319 E Kenwood Blvd, Milwaukee, WI 53211 (across the street from the UWM Union) on Thursday evenings 7-8:30PM. The 2026 classes begin January 22 and ends on December 17 [No Class April 2; July 23, 30; October 15, 22; November 26; December 24, 31]. We typically dance in groups of 6-8 people to lively fiddle, accordion, pipe, and piano music recorded by world class musicians, but on occasion we have live music! New Dancers are always welcome! It is an open class!
This class has the advantage of being on the east side of Milwaukee, near the UWM campus, and on a bus line! Parking is available on the street, in the Union parking lot, at the Zelazo Center parking lot, or if there is room in the tiny Zao parking lot. Class costs are solely for the facility rental and will be pay-what-you-can at each class (suggested $5 cash or Zelle). Please share this flyer with everyone you know who might be interested!
Teacher: Rebecca Renee Winnie is fully certificated by the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) after a full career as a music educator. She teaches with the Milwaukee and Madison Scottish Country Dancers. Questions can be emailed to Rebecca at [email protected].

*RSCDS lists 360 groups including these countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United States, and, of course, the UK [England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales].
Although the class is for adults, teens ages 14-17 are welcome if accompanied by a parent/guardian. Families indeed enjoy dancing together!
