Mizuhiki: Japanese Decorative Knots – Autumn Leaf Knot
Mizuhiki has been woven into Japanese life for centuries, most familiarly as the decorative cord that adorns gifts and envelopes for weddings, celebrations and other important occasions. Made from washi, it is a remarkably versatile material.
This October you will explore the graceful form of the leaf knot, a relatively simple design and a natural next step after the basic awaji knot. You will make a delicate bookmark or a brooch inspired by the colours of autumn foliage. An earring option is available in place of the brooch.
Please let us know which you would like to make, bookmark, brooch or earrings, when you register, or email [email protected].
No experience is necessary. All materials are included. Taught by Satoi Adams of Mizuhiki Global Links.
PLEASE NOTE: Registration closes 2 hours before the session. Cancellations made within 72 hours of the session are nonrefundable.
About this Event
For our Mizuhiki class on October 18th, you will tie the leaf knot and turn it into a bookmark or a brooch for autumn.
Mizuhiki has been woven into Japanese life for centuries, most familiarly as the decorative cord that adorns gifts and envelopes for weddings, celebrations and other important occasions. Made from washi, it is a remarkably versatile material: a simple paper cord that can be tied, shaped and transformed into intricate forms.
This October you will explore the graceful form of the leaf knot, a relatively simple design and a natural next step after the basic awaji knot. In Japan autumn is celebrated as a season for both reading and personal style, and the leaf knot suits either.
You will make a delicate bookmark or a brooch inspired by the colours and the quiet beauty of autumn foliage. An earring option is available in place of the brooch. Choose colours drawn from autumn leaves, or your own combination in shades you love.
Please let us know which you would like to make — bookmark, brooch or earrings — when you register, or email [email protected]. If you are not sure, you can decide on the day.
No experience is necessary. All materials are included, and you take home the piece you make.
The workshop is taught by Satoi Adams of Mizuhiki Global Links, who has led mizuhiki workshops and exhibitions in Japan and the United States since 2018.
This class is open to everyone — come relax, enjoy a creative afternoon, and bring a little piece of Japanese art into your life. Space is limited, so early registration is recommended.
PLEASE NOTE: Registration closes 2 hours before the session. Cancellations made within 72 hours of the session are nonrefundable.
