Excitement is high. Visiting artist Jenny Day is coming to Mississippi for a Gallery show, and staying to offer a don’t-miss class in mixed media sculpture, just for The Arts Hancock County. Based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Jenny is bringing a mixed-media sculpture and armature-building workshop to us and we’re feeling oh-so-fortunate.
In this hands-on, two-day emersion, you’ll work with and learn from an artist of considerable note, how to create mixed media objects using foam and wire as an armature, then decorate using beads, pins, glue, and found objects.
Pattern, color, form, design, and armature building are among what will all be discussed during Jenny’s multi-day workshop. It’s a rare opportunity to learn skills and concepts from an artist of Jenny’s caliber.
Students will, no-doubt, leave excited to create their own works, as well as invigorated in their own art practice[AW1] . Come be inspired.

What you’ll learn about in this class:
· The construction of armatures with foam, wire, tape, glue
· Attaching mixed media objects to an armature with glue and pins
· Theories of form and design in sculpture
· Thinking of a three-dimensional form, from multiple angles
· Pattern and surface
· The impact and use of color and color repetition in mixed media
About the instructor: Jenny Day (b.1981) is an artist living in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She earned an MFA in Painting from the University of Arizona, a BFA in Painting from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and a BA in Environmental Studies from the University of California Santa Cruz. Her global exhibition record most recently includes Arte Laguna in Venice, Italy, Czong Institute for Contemporary Art in Korea, Museum of Art Fort Collins, Mesa Arts Museum, Phoenix Art Museum, Blue Star Contemporary Museum in San Antonio, TX, Alabama Contemporary in Mobile, AL, and Elmhurst Museum in Chicago, IL.
Day's work has been supported by grants from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation, Puffin Foundation, Phoenix Art Museum, Process Museum and multiple public art purchase awards. Day has been an artist in residence at Anderson Ranch, Greenwich House Pottery, Ucross Foundation, Jentel Foundation, Playa Foundation For The Arts, and many other artist residencies. Jenny is represented by Ferrara Showman Gallery in New Orleans Louisiana, Visions West in Denver Colorado, and Bozeman Montana, and Galerie Bengelstrater in Dusseldorf, Germany.
