Mixed Media Collage Class: We Are the Skyline
Join Artist of the Month Nadine Shillingford for a mixed-media collage workshop inspired by the theme We Are the Skyline. Participants will create the Nashville skyline using reused materials, torn paper, printed images, bold shapes, and paint. Inspired by the swirling sky of The Starry Night, each collage will celebrate the people and communities of Nashville and nearby cities like Spring Hill. Learning objectives:
Create with Shapes Instead of Drawing: Students will learn how to build recognizable forms (sky, buildings, faces) using simple cut or torn shapes rather than sketching.
Explore Layering and Composition: Students will practice arranging foreground elements (people) and background elements (sky/city) to create depth and visual balance in a collage.
Use Color and Pattern for Expression: Students will experiment with bold colors and repeating shapes (like swirls and circles) to convey movement, mood, and energy.
This program is for teens and adults. Participants are encouraged to bring in personal images for the collage, but if this is optional. All materials supplied. Registration is required; click the Ticket link above to sign up.
