About this Event

Clear, accurate minutes are essential for transparent decision‑making and effective governance. This practical session explores what minutes are, why they matter, and how to take them confidently and consistently. It focuses on recording decisions and actions clearly, supporting accountability, and meeting the expectations of regulators, funders, and members.

What the session covers

• What meeting minutes are, why they are important, and when organisations are legally required to keep them

• The role minutes play in transparency, accountability, and good governance

• What good practice minute taking looks like, including what to record, what not to record, and how to stay objective

• How to structure minutes clearly, focusing on decisions, actions, responsibilities, and timescales

• Working effectively with the Chair to ensure meetings run smoothly and outcomes are recorded accurately

• Common pitfalls and bad practice to avoid when taking minutes

• Using agendas, action‑focused formats, and clear language to improve readability

• Managing approval, legitimacy, storage, and retention of minutes

• Minute taking in virtual, hybrid, and remote meetings, including accessibility considerations and responsible use of technology

Who is it for?

Ideal for trustees, secretaries, staff, volunteers, committee members, and anyone responsible for taking or approving minutes at board, committee, or formal meetings.

Suitable for both new and more experienced minute takers who want to improve confidence and consistency.

Why attend?

Well‑written minutes protect your organisation, support follow‑up actions and provide a trusted record of decisions. Poor minutes can lead to confusion, missed actions, and governance risks.
