"A Ghost Chases the Horizon" is an Appalachian Gothic tale exploring the mysteries and tragedies of four eras of the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. Told by the Kirkbride, the hospital’s flagship building, the story revolves around an urban spelunker in 1999, an adrift divorcee in 2019, a falsely committed patient in 1905, and a cantankerous farmer in 1935.
Mike (M.L.) Mallow is an award-winning newspaper producer, photographer, and writer with more than twenty years in the newspaper industry. He is the editor of the Grant County Herald in Elbow Lake, Minnesota. Mike has five published novels with an independent press, one of which was voted Appalachian Book of the Year by listeners of the Appodlachia podcast. A native of West Virginia, Mike currently lives in Minnesota with his wife and daughter.
