Microplastics in the Great Lakes

In a recent nationwide poll conducted by the Environmental Group 5 Gyres, to over 1,100 participants from 18 years and older, over 23% stated they never heard of microplastics; of the remaining 77% over half did not know exactly what microplastics are or what they are about.
Knowledgeable Americans are most concerned about microplastics’ impact on their health (90%), links to serious health conditions (89%), and their presence inside the human body (90%), the general environment (89%), and wildlife (89%).
Art Hirsch is from the Michigan Microplastics Coalition and is an environmental engineer with over 30 years of water quality experience. He lives in Boulder Colorado and spends his summers in the Ludington/Pentwater Michigan area. He is originally from Michigan, and he received his Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University in Fisheries and Wildlife and a Master of Science degree from the University of Colorado in Environmental Engineering.
