Join Wellington pianist Michal Cihelka for an inviting and varied musical journey, bringing together some of the most beautiful and exciting music from the classical repertoire, alongside favourites from the world of musical theatre and popular music.
A particular highlight of the programme is Michal's performance of the first two movements of Shostakovich's beloved Piano Concerto No. 2, uniquely accompanied by his own Unreal Orchestra – a hand-crafted backing track that brings the sound and scale of a full orchestra to the experience.
Also featuring is Chopin's dramatic and deeply expressive Ballade No. 1, Debussy's ethereal Clair de Lune, and a selection of brilliant Preludes by Rachmaninoff.
And, for lovers of musical theatre and popular music, Michal brings together a selection of beautiful and familiar favourites, reimagined through his own distinctive arrangements.
Come along and enjoy a memorable and most beautiful piano recital. Pay-what-you-can tickets start at just $5. Tickets are available online, or at the door on the day (subject to seating availability).
Recital duration is approximately 75 minutes.
