About this Event
The MH conference you will provide, staff training and tools and resources to better support both students and staff’s MH and Wellbeing within your school. Helping you to foster a supportive, informed, and healthier educational environment.
Creating a mentally healthy school environment can lead to improved student behaviour, better performance, and improve pupil and staff wellbeing.
You will have opportunities to network with SMHLs and will have a clearer understanding of the services and professionals that can support your learners and their families.
Neil Humphrey is Professor of Psychology of Education at the Manchester Institute of Education, University of Manchester, UK. His research focuses on what we mean by wellbeing, why wellbeing matters, what matters for wellbeing, and what works for wellbeing, in children and young people. When he is not working at the University, Neil moonlights as an unpaid taxi driver for his three daughters.
There is no charge for the conference - funded in partnership with Rochdale Healthy schools, University of Manchester and #BeeWell.

1. Understanding Mental Health:

/ Define what mental health is, its importance, and how it affects overall well-being.
/ Address common mental health issues like anxiety, depression, stress, and eating disorders.
/ Discuss the stigma surrounding mental health and how to reduce it.
2. Creating a Supportive Environment:
Info: (Rochdale Educational Psychology team) / How to foster a sense of belonging in schools

3. Signs and Symptoms:
Info: ( YPMHST (young peoples’ mental health support team)) / Provide information on recognising early warning signs of mental health struggles in students. / Educate on the difference between normal stress or sadness and more serious mental health concerns.
4. Self-Care Practices for staff and young people:
Info: (YPMHST) / Teach practical tools for managing stress. / Offer strategies for emotional regulation and coping mechanisms.
5. Parent Involvement – building belonging from the ground up:
Info: (PCV (parent carer voice) ) / How schools can work with parents. / Provide guidance on how parents can create open lines of communication about mental health at home.
6. Mental Health Resources:
Info: (CAMHS / Neuro hub & YPMHST) / Highlight available resources such as school counsellors, peer support programs, and mental health services. / Provide information about community mental health organizations and online support networks.
7. Mental Health and Ofsted including DfE funded projects and yp voice
