Shamanic soundscapes, cacao and rituals for reconnectionDay of the death special celebration!
Join Claudio with his brand new project called Xochipilli´s Eye. Xochipilli (Pronounced zo-chee-pee-lee) is the Mexican god of music, flowers, arts, and sacred plants.
On this special occasion we will be celebrating one of the most important holidays in Mexico, the day of the death or “dia de muertos”.
This special celebration dates back to prehispanic times before the arrival of Europeans to America and has been alive and incorporating elements over the years.
Claudio will explain why it is important to celebrate and take the time to honor and remember the members of your family, ancestors and loved ones that have passed away.
We will also learn how to set up your “ofrenda” and altar, and which elements are important for it and their meaning.
Claudio´s last trip home to Mexico was full of inspiration, reconnecting to his ancestral roots in Mexico City. He was fortunate to meet a prehispanic musician and instrument maker who plays and crafts beautiful traditional instruments. Claudio returned to NZ with many special new instruments; and continues to be inspired and guided by the cultural wealth, wisdom, and knowledge of the ancient cultures of the Americas.
The Event will be extraordinary and unique. You will learn as well about Mexican prehispanic cosmology and spirituality. Experience simple and powerful rituals together with unique musical instruments used by Olmecs, Toltecs, Aztecs, and Mayans. The instruments include clay flutes, clay drums, medicine drums, ocarinas, wooden flutes, shells, and shakers skillfully arranged to create magical shamanic atmospheres.
We will be sharing Cacao which is a very energetic traditional Mexican Prehispanic drink to open the heart, reconnect with the earth element, ignite your fire, and get you up and moving.
On the schedule:
Cleansing copal and herbal welcoming.
Talk about the use of music in the ancient times.
An opening ceremony to acknowledge the Tlalmanalli (offering and altar) with the deep sound of the conch shell in the four directions.
Claudio will offer the cacao drink as a connection with the earth, to yourself, and the moment.
Music that invokes many emotions and imagery, from contemplative natural and mystical environments to uplifting and empowering rhythms. So you are free to project and explore within and/ or express and liberate projecting outwards.
We will finish with a shamanic atmosphere relaxation and close the event with a traditional chant.
No previous experience is required, wear comfortable clothing, an open heart, and a mind to learn and receive.
Also, you are welcome to bring a fruit and or a flower to contribute to the altar.
