METAMORPHOSES: Based on the Myths of Ovid FRI 17 MATINEE
About this Event
Join us this July for our inaugural production: Mary Zimmerman's Pulitzer Prize-winning Metamorphoses: Based on the Myths of Ovid at the historic Hammersmith Club Venue in London.
This play transforms Greco-Roman myths into contemporary fables for modern audiences to enjoy. In honoring the play’s celebrated stage design, our production will feature two seven-foot pools of shallow water that you won’t want to miss!
Why Metamorphoses?
Metamorphoses gives us the rare opportunity to dream together, to travel between laughter, ponderance, and catharsis with the simple and profound impact of ancient poetry brought to life for today. To engage with myths gives us an opportunity to fall in love with humanity again, at a time when it is difficult to understand or respect human behavior.
Nearly twenty-five years ago, Metamorphoses became a source of collective healing for audiences in the aftermath of 9/11. Through ancient myths, water, movement, and storytelling, the production reminded audiences of something timeless: that transformation is possible even in moments of uncertainty and loss.
Today, as communities around the world grapple with conflict, polarization, displacement, and social division, these stories feel as urgent as ever.
At its heart, Metamorphoses is about change. It is about grief becoming hope, isolation becoming connection, and endings becoming beginnings. We believe these themes deserve to be experienced together in a live theatre setting.
The world is on fire, best to return to the water, and begin again.
Hammersmith Club Venue
The Hammersmith Club is a remarkable community landmark that has served local residents for generations. Rich in history and character, it evokes a sense of gathering that feels perfectly suited to a play rooted in ancient oral storytelling traditions.
By staging our production in this unique venue, we hope not only to create an unforgettable theatrical experience but also to celebrate and support an important local institution.
