The Company of Merchant Adventurers of the City of York has a long and prestigious history of promoting enterprise, entrepreneurship and commercial ventures. They are an active force in the economic development of the City of York and its surrounds and its members are drawn from a wide range of professions and industries.

This event is a collaboration between the Company of Merchant Adventurers and Enterprise Works at the University of York.

Tuesday 2nd June at 4.45pm Dr Marie Groll, Director of The York Glaziers Trust, followed by a Q& A and networking.

After gaining her PhD, Marie has worked in various capacities as a stained glass consultant. She has been involved with major academic projects and has published on stained glass topics. She has also worked as a technical and art historical project manager with the international arts consultancy Buro Rauch. Marie also spent a decade administering conservation grants and work placement awards on behalf of the Glaziers Charity, part of the Worshipful Company of Glaziers and Painters of Glass. She joined the YGT in 2017, progressing from Business Manager to Deputy Director. She took over as Director of the company in October 2025, where she leads an international team of experts in stained glass.

The York Glaziers Trust is the oldest and largest independent stained glass studio in the UK. It began life as the Minster Glaziers, a direct workforce of York Minster charged with the care of its 128 stained glass windows. From 1967 the Minster Glaziers became an independent charitable trust dedicated not only to the preservation of York Minster’s windows, but to the restoration of important stained glass throughout the UK. Although part of a longstanding vocation dating back to the medieval period, the company today mixes traditional craft skills with cutting-edge technologies.
