ABOUT THIS COURSE

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)-Standard Course Overview

One person in five will experience a mental health problem this year. It is often reported that the most challenging part of intervening is knowing what to say. MHFA Basic is an interactive and content-rich course designed to increase participant knowledge of mental health and how to support other adults (18 years and older) who may be experiencing mental ill health. Participants having taken MHFA training report that they are able to interact confidently about mental health with their family, friends, workplaces and other communities.

Training will include the four most common mental health disorders: substance-related, mood-related, anxiety/trauma-related, and psychotic disorders, while also dispelling myths, misinformation, and stigma associated with mental health problems.

Evidence gathered by the Mental Health Commission of Canada shows that taking a MHFA course increases the confidence participants have in engaging someone experiencing a mental health problem or crisis.
