Mental Health: A Collective Approach to Supporting Students Part 1(07846)

Research shows having at least one relationship with a supportive adult is a protective factor in a youth’s resiliency. When adolescents are navigating the challenges of shifting emotional states, it may be difficult to differentiate typical adolescent behavior from behaviors indicating a more serious mental health condition. As staff members, recognizing the signs and symptoms of a mental health situation, and what to do next is particularly important in early intervention.

Through part 1, participants will learn more about how to identify and assist a student with a mental health need and the resources available for support. Discussion opportunities to share success practices in helping students manage a challenging situation will occur and collaborate on ways to build positive connections with the student, family, and staff support.

Objectives- Participants will:

• Recognize mental health signs and symptoms
• Recognize mental health signs and symptoms
• Respond appropriately to a student with a mental health need
• Recommend ways to help a student get support
