Mending Matters | Creative Textile Repair with Practice Studio
A practical and social workshop exploring textile repair and creative mending techniques. Participants may be encouraged to bring garments to repair, adapt or upcycle. this workshop will allow you to develop hands on skills, in a supportive studio environment, focused on sustainability and shared creativity.
Learn to: Sew a button, alter a hemline, adding darts, darning and repairing moth holes, identify the best place to take in a garment
Who should attend?
- Suitable for ages 16+
- beginner friendly
- some basic sewing knowledge helpful
What's included?
Includes illustrated take-home guide to machine and handsewing techniques for clothing repair and alterations. All materials provided
What should I bring and wear?
Wear closed toes shoes, hair tied back
Optional: bring one or two items of clothing for personalised advice/ to start working on
Meet Practice Studio
Kat Walsh is owner and founder of Practice Studio, an emerging designer workroom and store that facilitates slow and mindful approaches to fashion and design. Dedicated to showcasing emerging and independent labels from around Australia, the space also boasts an in-demand alterations and repairs service.Following studies in sculpture (QCA) and fashion (QUT) Kat worked in costume for film, opera and theatre. She also regularly returns to QUT to mentor up and coming design talent.

Workshop Cancellation Policy:
Please note this workshop can be cancelled by artisan due to unforeseen circumstances or if minimum numbers are not reached - this decision is made between 2-7 days before the workshop date so don't delay in buying your ticket! In the event of the workshop being cancelled by artisan, participants will be refunded in full and as soon as possible.
Participant Cancellation Policy:
Workshops have limited spaces and involve preparation by the facilitator. Bookings cancelled up to two weeks prior to the start of the workshop may be refunded, but a 20% non-refundable administration fee will be deducted. Bookings cancelled within two weeks of the workshop commencing will not be refunded. Refunds are to be processed by the attendee through Humanitix.
Workshop Transfer Policy:
You are also welcome to transfer your booking to another person prior to the workshop commencing. Please confirm this arrangement 24 hours prior to the workshop in writing to [email protected].
