Meeting Mary: Advent Sermon Series

This Advent, we're setting aside the familiar images of Mary to meet the woman behind the tradition.
Who was Mary of Nazareth? What might her life have actually been like as a young Jewish woman living under Roman occupation? What do history, archaeology, and Scripture reveal—and what assumptions have we inherited over the centuries?
Drawing inspiration from James Tabor's The Lost Mary, this four-week sermon series will explore Mary's story through the lenses of biblical scholarship, history, and faith. Together, we'll consider the world that shaped her, the courage it took to say yes to God, and why her story still has the power to reshape our own.
Whether you've heard the Christmas story a hundred times or are encountering it with fresh questions, this series invites you to rediscover one of the Bible's most influential—and often misunderstood—women.
Join us each Sunday during Advent as we journey toward Christmas by meeting Mary in a new way.
