Meet the Winemaker: G.D. Vajra

In the village of Vergne, perched at one of the highest elevations in the Barolo denomination, sits a small family estate that has quietly become one of Piedmont's most respected names.
G.D. Vajra was founded in 1972 by Aldo Vajra, who began with just a handful of hectares and a conviction that great wine should speak the language of its land. Long before organic viticulture became fashionable, Aldo was already farming without chemicals — a commitment to the soil that remains central to how the estate operates today. The winery is now stewarded by his children, Isidoro, Francesca, and Giuseppe, who have taken the estate's philosophy further while staying faithful to what their father built.
On 25 June, our host Eugene Qiao will guide you through five Vajra wines — a rare opportunity to explore this estate's range from its most playful expression all the way to the top.
The evening's lineup:
🍾 2024 Moscato d'Asti — Gently sparkling, honey-sweet, barely 5.5% alcohol. The wine that reminds you wine doesn't have to be serious to be brilliant.
🍷 2023 Langhe Rosso — Piedmont's answer to "I just want something delicious." A blend built for the table, not the cellar.
🍷 2024 Barbera d'Alba — Barbera is Piedmont's everyday red — but in Vajra's hands, everyday becomes exceptional. Deep, bright, and impossible to put down.
🍷 2022 Langhe Freisa Kye — Freisa is one of Piedmont's oldest native grapes, and almost nobody grows it anymore. Vajra does. You'll understand why when you taste it.
🍷 2021 Barolo Albe — The King of Italian wines, from one of its finest custodians. A wine that rewards patience in the glass. Give it twenty minutes and it will give you something back.
