The Proposed Small Posse, Inc., (the Small Posse) is a member-run nonprofit coalition incorporated in Indiana and organized under Section 501(c)(4), built to oppose the U.S. Small Business Administration's proposed size-standards rule, #NAICS consolidation proposal, and the methodology behind them (docket SBA-2026-0199).
Let me be clear about what we are for: modernization, with fairness, transparency and open dialogue. This proposal isn't that. Under it, much larger companies could qualify as small and compete for the set-asides that true small businesses depend on, risking less competition and higher costs for the American taxpayer.
Why are we doing this? Because it is the right thing.
We believe this proposal is improper. Fairness, transparency, sound data, genuine dialogue. That is what doing this right looks like, and that is what this Posse is about.
Many companies and associations already oppose this rule, but lone voices get lost. One united posse carries more weight with SBA and Congress than a hundred lone riders.
What we've built:
- One member, one vote. From a two-person firm to a national association, every member has an equal voice and elects the board.
- $3,000 membership dues in segregated funds with board-approved spending, dedicated to the legal and advocacy fight. No personal distributions.
- A planned $700,000 fixed-fee campaign with our selected counsel, Ice Miller: a formal comment to SBA, congressional advocacy, and a court challenge if the final rule warrants one.
- Public-facing privacy. You can ask to keep your name out of public-facing materials. It is a checkbox on the application.
Success starts with stopping this proposal before it takes effect. And if the fight produces meaningful modification or a genuine SBA-industry dialogue on modernizing the right way, that's a win too. Comments are due November 20, 2026.
Who should ride with us: small businesses, large businesses that started small, and associations, even if you're already part of another effort. We are here to unite those efforts, not replace them.
Here is how you can help:
- Comment. Tell SBA what this change would mean for you on docket SBA-2026-0199 before November 20.
- Join. Visit www.smallposse.org to learn more or get a membership application.
- Share. Send this post to every small business, association and teaming partner it affects.
- Advocate. Speak up for fairness, justness and common sense. That is what doing the right thing looks like.
