Fugue in E flat BWV 552 (ii) Johann Sebastian Bach
Composer, conductor and organist Alexander Flood read Music at Oxford with JohnCaldwell and Guy Newbury, and attended the composition classes of Robert Sherlaw-Johnson and Robert Saxton. He held the organ scholarships of Jesus College, Oxford, and St Albans Cathedral, having studied with John Wellingham and on the summer course of the Norddeutsche Orgelakademie with Harold Vogel. Postgraduate studies culminated in a PhD in Composition from King’s College, London, supervised by the Argentine composer Silvina Milstein, and Sir George Benjamin, pupil of Messiaen and Goehr.
In addition to being Assistant Director of Music at St Peter’s Church, St Albans, Alex conducts Great Missenden Choral Society and Radlett Choir. As an organist, he regularly gives organ recitals in London, Oxford, and across Germany. He teaches piano atWycombeAbbeySchooland has a thriving practice of private pupils. For five years he taught conducting and composition and lectured on music analysis at the University of Chichester. He is now organ tutor at many colleges in the University of Oxford as well as being Director of Music at Brasenose College for the current academic year.
