About this Event
Bike Ride & Street Safety Conversation
Date: Tuesday, May 19, 2026
Time: 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Start/End Location: Monroe Park
Conversation Starter: Math made me a patient driver
Tension between a slow cyclist and an impatient driver is uncomfortable for both. The driver is frustrated with losing time while the cyclist fears the situation might escalate unsafely. Negative emotions make both sides ready for a fight.
But the impatience is often fueled by a myth that the slow cyclist is slowing down the driver.
We're going to put this to a live test. By biking a loop beginning and ending at Monroe Park, we're going to compare driving and biking times. At the end of the ride, we'll crunch the numbers together.
You'll walk away with the confidence that slowing down to safely pass cyclists has a near negligible impact on your trip. We hope it'll help you be a patient driver and a respectful road user.
