MATC Presents: Digitising Craft
About this Event
Participants will spend time looking closely at the Whitworth’s exhibition programme, seeking out patterns, shapes, textures and objects that spark their interest or imagination. Using these discoveries as inspiration, alongside our textile handling collection, participants will explore how hidden characters, stories and unexpected narratives can emerge from the details found within artworks and objects.
Working with iPads, participants will experiment with digital drawing, using photographs taken during their exploration as a starting point. They will layer their own drawings, marks, colours and imagined characters over these primary images, transforming familiar details into something new and personal.
The resulting digital illustrations will then become the starting point for a multistage collaborative artwork, bringing individual ideas together and blending digital processes with tactile making and a diverse range of materials and media in playful and unexpected ways.
Manchester Artist Teacher Collective (MATC) brings together artist-teachers from secondary schools and colleges across Manchester, alongside gallery educators from Manchester Art Gallery, the Whitworth, and HOME. Together, we collaborate with art educators, local artists, studios, and gallery spaces to enrich creative practice across the city.
Our events are for teachers, artists, and anyone interested in visual art education.
