A monthly in-person art group
About this Event

Make Art: Manchester is a free in-person art group is an opportunity to connect with other artists in a relaxed and creative space. Make Art is a place to talk about art, life, and creativity, hatch new ideas and explore your potential as an artist.

The group is facilitated by two Outside In ambassadors, so is both by and for the community of artists who face major barriers to the mainstream art world.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own creative projects to work on, in a communal space. We will always have some art materials on hand for those who wish to try something new.

This group is open to people regardless of skill level, how long you’ve been creating, or what your background is. Even if you don’t feel like you can call yourself an ‘artist’, for whatever reason, but you want to get crafty in a room with some other people, then we’re here for you.

You do not need to be a member of Outside In to attend the group, so long as you meet Outside In’s criteria of facing barriers to the art world, whether that is through isolation, disability, mental illness, or social circumstances. If you are unsure, you can always get in touch.

Places are very limited, so please book your ticket in advance. If it is showing as sold out on Eventbrite, there may still be places available - email Beth Hopkins Community Development Manager at [email protected] to find out.

Please let Beth know if you have any access requirements, for example disabled parking, a quiet break out space, or to bring someone with you for support.

Come along to meet other artists and make art!

About Outside In

Outside In works with artists who encounter barriers to the artworld due to health, disability, and social circumstance. You can find out more on our website: outsidein.org.uk.

Accessibility

We aim to make the group as accessible as possible for everyone coming. Everyone's needs are different, so if you have requirements please get in touch with Beth at [email protected] to let us know how we can make sure the session works for you.

For example, you might need a quiet breakout space, space for an electric wheelchair or walker, guide dogs, and you are also welcome to bring someone with you for support (please book a place for them too). You can read more about accessibility at the Whitworth here: whitworth.manchester.ac.uk/visit/access.

  • We will be using a private room on the ground floor, which is wheelchair accessible
  • Attendees are welcome to bring PAs/carers, please book a place for them
  • Gender-neutral and accessible toilets are across the hall from the room we will be using.
  • The nearest Changing Places toilet is at Manchester University, just further down Oxford Road.
  • Refreshments will be provided.
  • We are always open to both questions and feedback on accessibility.

Directions

Follow signs for step-free access to The Whitworth on Denmark Road. Enter through the Garden entrance. Turn right, go to the end of the hall. The private room we are using is on the right, opposite the bathrooms. All artists need to use this entrance, not just those with step-free needs.
