Join Rangiputa Wallace for a hands-on Matariki weaving workshop where participants will create woven stars inspired by the Matariki cluster. This workshop runs 6pm-8pm, and is free to attend with a koha donation. Spaces are limited so bookings are necessary to avoid disappointment.
Together, you’ll explore the significance of the Matariki stars and their meanings, reflect on Matariki as a time of remembrance, connection, and new beginnings, and touch on tikanga surrounding harakeke and its use in raranga.
Participants will learn the basics of weaving using harakeke while creating their own woven star to take home. No prior weaving experience is needed. All materials will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothing and come ready to learn in a relaxed and supportive environment.
