Follow Candide on a riotous journey as he searches for “the best
of all possible worlds,” teeming with humor, unexpected twists,
and profound philosophical reflections.
From Cunegonde’s over-the-top “Glitter and Be Gay” to the rarely heard comedic duet “We Are Women,” Bernstein’s iconic music offers a provocative perspective on life’s absurdities and the enduring pursuit of optimism.
SFSO’s premiere of Candide is inspired by Lonny Price’s 2004 hit
production for the NY Phil, popularized by the PBS series, “Great
Performances.” This semi-staged concert version features the
orchestra, a dynamic cast of actor-vocalists, minimal sets and
costumes, and a chorus performing together on stage.
