Discover an innovative technique developed by artist and photographer Henri van Noordenburg in this exploratory, hands‑on masterclass. Participants will learn Henri’s distinctive technique of hand-carving inkjet prints, a meticulous, analogue approach comparable to the sgraffito process, that transforms a photographic or printed image into a richly textured, one‑of‑a‑kind artwork.Working directly into inkjet prints on fine art paper, participants will use scalpels and sandpaper to carefully remove and abrade the upper layers of the print surface. Through this subtractive process, underlying tones are revealed while new marks and textures emerge. Henri will also demonstrate how to introduce additional ink and natural pigments, expanding tonal depth and creating layered, painterly effects.
This masterclass emphasises precision, and experimentation, encouraging artists to slow down and engage deeply with surface, image, and process. The techniques explored offer fresh possibilities for photographers, printmakers, and visual artists seeking to extend their practice beyond traditional printing methods and into more tactile, materially expressive territory.
Please wear closed-in shoes.
