Mastering the Art of Portrait Photography: Beyond the Snapshot

Tired of taking portraits that look flat, awkward, or boring? It’s time to stop just "taking photos" and start capturing human depth.

Whether you are struggling to make your subjects feel comfortable, fighting with harsh outdoor lighting, or wondering why your expensive camera isn’t delivering those creamy, professional backgrounds, this hands-on masterclass is designed for you.

Join Ben, who's had 15yrs of expereince in photography for a hands on workshop where we strip away the technical overwhelm and focus on what actually makes a portrait breathtaking.

What We’ll Cover

This isn't a dry lecture. We will be working with a live subject, practicing real-world scenarios, and breaking down the process into actionable steps:

  • The Psychology of the Portrait: How to talk to your subject, break the ice in under 2 minutes, and draw out genuine, unforced expressions.
  • Chasing the Light: Mastering natural light, finding the "golden hour" anywhere, and using simple, cheap reflectors to get that professional glow.
  • Demystifying Camera Settings: Exactly how to set your aperture, shutter speed, and ISO for sharp eyes and beautiful, blurry backgrounds (bokeh).
  • Composition & Angles: How to frame your shot to tell a story and use angles that flatter every body type.
  • The Editorial Edge: Behind-the-scenes secrets of posing, styling, and basic post-processing to make your images pop.

Is This Class Right for You?

This class is PERFECT if: You just bought a DSLR/Mirrorless camera and want to learn how to use it. You want to take better photos of your kids, friends, or clients. You are a hobbyist looking to take your work to a professional level.

"A portrait is not likeness. The moment an emotion or fact is transformed into a photograph it is no longer a fact but an opinion." — Richard Avedon
