Mark Leavens “In the Thick of It”

In the Thick of It exhibits paintings and sculptures reflecting Mark Leavens’ experiences navigating Louisiana, serving as a visual diary of his time spent in this new landscape. The artwork conveys his shifting emotional state and evolving perspective as an outsider. Leavens’ experiences infuse the work with curiosity, tension, and fragmentation, creating a mental map of his adjustment to Louisiana’s complex culture and history. These pieces embody a sense of constant change as Leavens continues to adapt to and reinterpret his surroundings.   

This exhibition will be on view March 12–19 at Glassell Gallery with a reception on March 15 from 6–8 p.m. Mark Leavens will give a gallery talk Sunday, March 16 at 1:30 p.m.
