About this Event

A walk through the Marigny Neighborhood, admiring the Louisiana Native Plants.

-Saturday, June 27th

-Meet at 8am

-Start at the Corner of Port St and Royal St (640 Port St)

-End at Washington Square Park (700 Elysian Fields Ave)

Join Helen Sierminski of Nola Sidewalk Gardens and Forests for a walk through the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood focused on Native Plants. We will start at the corner of Port and Royal, across from Mardi Gras Zone. Here we will find a pollinator garden on the site of a former historic home. Many native plants live in this space. On our walk around the neighborhood, we will visit 2 homes that are certified Native Plant Habitats. We will discuss the process for certifying a home through the Louisiana Native Plant Society. We will conclude our walk at Washington Square Park, where we will visit the 2 native plant beds that have recently been planted here.

Native Plants are the backbone of a healthy ecosystem, providing shelter and resources for our native wildlife such as birds, bees, moths and butterflies. Planting native plants helps support this wildlife.

Helen is a certified Louisiana Native Plant Professional and a board member for the Native Plant Initiative of Greater New Orleans. She is also a certified Master Naturalist. In addition to leading Urban Nature Walks in the city, she also provides garden consults to help people find and implement native plants into their spaces.

This walk is free but donations are happily accepted. Your donations allow us to continue offering events such as this.
