María Grand is a saxophonist, composer, educator, and vocalist. She has performed with her ensembles all over Europe and North America; she has also played and/or recorded with creative music luminaries such as Joel Ross, Mary Halvorson, Antoine Roney, Nicole Mitchell, and more. The New York Times calls her “an engrossing young tenor saxophonist with a zesty attack and a solid tonal range”, while Vijay Iyer says she is “a fantastic young saxophonist, virtuosic, conceptually daring, with a lush tone, a powerful vision, and a deepening emotional resonance.”She is a certified relationship consultant from the ETC school of self-development, based in Quebec. She has a teaching studio where she teaches Music and Self Knowledge, and recently premiered an Emotional Deep Dive where musicians and audience created a communal moment to sonically mirror and transform emotions.
Shakoor Hakeem is a percussionist and improviser whose work expands the role of rhythm in contemporary jazz and creative music. Rooted in Afro-diasporic traditions yet shaped by experimental practice, Hakeem approaches percussion as a tool for texture, space, and collective ritual rather than strict timekeeping. Emerging from the fertile Philadelphia creative music scene, Hakeem has performed and collaborated with respected jazz and avant-garde artists, engaging directly with lineages shaped by legendary improvisers and elders of the music. Through these collaborations, he has absorbed the philosophies of musicians who view jazz as a living tradition, one that values cultural memory, risk, and spiritual intention as much as technique. Rather than imitate the past, Hakeem abstracts its lessons, blending ancestral rhythmic knowledge with contemporary improvisation. His work reflects a commitment to innovation through listening, community, and integrity, positioning him as a vital voice in the ongoing evolution of creative jazz and experimental percussion.
Bashi Rose is a theater artist, musician, and filmmaker. He was raised in West Baltimore and was nurtured, inspired, and trained in his craft by the Baltimore Arts Community. As a musician, Bashi uses the drum-kit as a creative tool for mental/spiritual healing and as a bridge between the spirit and physical worlds. He is the co-founder of Konjur Collective, a multidisciplinary group using music, video, and spoken word to create radical, experimental, and spiritual Black art. He has performed and had work produced in numerous venues including: the High Zero Festival of Experimental Improvised Music, Baltimore Rhythm Festival, San Francisco Black Film Festival, Black Femme Supremacy Film Fest, Black Panther Party Film festival, HipHop Theatre Festival, Creative Alliance, Arena Players, The Ottobar, Mind on Fire, Rhizome DC, New York International Fringe Festival, and the Schomburg Center. Bashi also wields his artistry as a force of community good. In 2007, he helped establish D.R.A.M.A, a program designed to bring theater to prisons and to help engender communication and empathy. This project began at the Maryland Correctional Training Center in Hagerstown, Maryland. In 2012, Bashi was awarded an Open Society Institute fellowship to expand the program. In addition to this work, Bashi is the co-founder New Generation Scholars, a youth program that allows Baltimore youth to study the African Diaspora and travel nationally and internationally.
