Join Songwriter Sanctuary on Friday, March 27 for our first ever Women's History Month event - a Baby Bushka takeover of sorts featuring original songs performed in-the-round by three members of the group.(For those who are unfamiliar with the internationally acclaimed Kate Bush tribute project that is/was Baby Bushka, go forth and familiarize: www.babybushka.com/about ...we'll wait).
With that project currently on a potentially permanent hiatus, we thought it'd be cool to invite Marie Haddad (Midnight Bush), Nancy Ross (Fancy Bush), and Heather Nation (Sugar Bush) to come share their original work with the Songwriter Sanctuary community.
Last season, we were thrilled to host additional members of the project, including Shelbi Bennett (aka Buffalo Bush) and Lexi Pulido (Hella Bush), and who knows, we may just see some special guests in the mix this month! We can't wait to share this magical night of music with you!

About This Month's Artists
Marie Haddad:
A San Diego Music Award–winning singer-songwriter and composer, Haddad has shared stages with artists like Christine and the Queens and George Benson and has had her songs placed on popular television shows like Dance Moms, RuPaul’s Drag Race, and more. Whether solo at the piano, contributing arrangements to her colleagues' projects, or fronting a full band, she invites listeners to experience beautiful genre-bending soundscapes that transcend the formulaic limitations of traditional pop music.
Nancy Ross:
A musical theatre performer since childhood, Nancy Ross has built a vibrant creative career that has taken her to stages across the globe. Nancy regularly collaborates with top musicians and local venues to produce music and arts events that mix flavors of nostalgia and fantasy together to showcase her own wonderfully weird world of improv and performance art . Beyond her own musical projects, Nancy is also a dedicated teaching artist who directs youth productions and creates music and movement programs for young performers.
Heather Nation:
A jill-of-all-trades on vocals, guitar, bass, keys, and synth, Heather is a self-producing songwriter and seasoned session musician who tours with Lauren Mayberry of CHVRCHES and Death Valley Girls. Whether in her home studio or onstage layering shimmering guitars and soulful harmonies, she creates immersive, rhythm-rich performances that make a mark.

Tip: At the event, we send a jangly tip jar around after intermission; please don't feel obligated if don't have the means or if you've already donated online or at door - it's just a way to show some extra love and send our artists home with RENT money, not gas money!
All Ages: Bear in mind we do not censor our artists so please make sure to check out the lineup and make the best decision for your family.
Parking: Street parking.
Food/Drink: Beverages for small purchase, thanks to our sponsors Babe Beverages and Duck Foot Brewing Company. Guests are welcome to bring their own food into the venue (please eat and dispose of waste respectfully). Accessibility: Normal Heights United is a 100 year-old building with a non-traditional seating arrangement, but we want every guest to feel safe and supported. Please send any accommodation requests to Molly at mollyrose(at)nhunited(dot)org at least five (5) business days prior to the event. Our online RSVP form also includes a field where you can disclose accessibility requests and/or preferences.
Entrances & Seating: The venue has an ADA ramp entrance and two rows of reserved seating for guests who use wheelchairs and/or need additional space. Balcony seating (stair access only) is available for those who prefer less noise or stimulation. Our online RSVP form also includes a space to share accessibility preferences.
Deaf/Hard of Hearing Access: While we can not provide ASL access at this month's showcase, we have asked artists to submit their lyrics so we can post a link to their lyrics for a basic level of accessibility. Notepads are available at entry and concession for anyone who prefers to communicate with staff or guests in writing. (ASL access is confirmed for April, July, and Oct shows).
Future Goals: We are actively seeking funding partners to provide expanded ASL services for additional shows, and have long-term goals of offering a livestream ticketing option. Please stay tuned and continue supporting us as we work toward these and other accessibility goals.
Community Safety
Sensory & Safety: In the foyer, you'll find single-use masks, ear plugs, and hand sanitizer. Two Corsi-Rosenthal box fan filters run during the event. If you’re feeling unwell, please plan to join us another time to help keep our community healthy.
Photo/Video Consent: Please check for consent before posting faces and/or prominent features of folks online. If you are an attendee and do not want to be captured by our in-house photographer, please let us know and we will make every effort to honor your request. Songwriter Sanctuary is committed to prioritizing consent and will continue to model and encourage this practice in our community.
Community Care: Normal Heights United has a big community fridge, pantry, and closet just steps from the venue. Please consider bringing unopened/unexpired items and/or gently used clothing for our under-resourced neighbors! Please be courteous and don't bring anything you wouldn't eat or wear yourself. If our Songwriter Sanctuary audience can stock this area once a month, that would be an incredible gift to the community and support for our venue partners at NHU who actually church like churches should church!
