About this Event
Join us at the Embassy of Ireland for a fireside chat with Ireland’s seventh Laureate na nÓg Patricia Forde, award winning children and young people’s writer. Patricia will show us how she writes stories, read from some of her books, and help us start writing our own stories.
Patricia Forde, from Galway, has written over twenty books from picture books to novels and her work been translated extensively. She is bilingual, writing in English and in Irish.
Her first novel The Wordsmith was published to great critical acclaim in 2015. It has since been published in the United States, Australia, Denmark, Russia, Turkey,France the Netherlands and most recently in Ukraine. It won a White Raven Award from the International Youth Library and is an American Library Association Notable Book for Children.
The theme for her laureateship, Samhlaigh! Samhlaigh! Making It Up As We Go Along, seeks to spark wild creativity across the country – bringing children and artists together to inspire one another, to imagine new worlds and most of all, to have fun along a the way.
