MARGARITA GIANNELLI
Fibre Artist & Instructor
I first learned to crochet in Catholic School. Projects were almost exclusively in white cotton yarn and using very fine hooks.
I learned to knit because I saw the Matrix movies and wanted to knit Neo’s distressed sweater whose pattern was made available by the designer, which I saw in the window of a Philadelphia yarn store close to my apartment.
I finally learned to knit in a small yarn store in Manhattan and made lots of blankets and scarves. I learned to make my first sweater in a yarn store in Prince William County. I got a part-time job there and was privileged to learn advanced skills from my employer and went on to teach basic crochet and knitting as well as fixing mistakes.
I knit and crochet what I like, I love color in my fiber work. I am always drawn to patterns that are useful to me and adjust them when needed.
If I am going to spend time making something, I want it to be beautiful as well.
Margarita supports Fibre Art projects at Arbor Row Center.
