Make and Take: Hand Carved Wooden Flowers - w/ Caroline
About this Event
You will gain familiarity with hand carving tools, the types of cuts possible with each tool, how to achieve depth in the design, and how to sculpt wood using a reductive method. This art form is relaxing and satisfying - come watch your design come to life with each bit of wood you carve away. This class is designed for beginners, no prior wood carving experience is necessary. All materials are provided and you will take home your flower carving.
As a part of the course, you’ll learn:
- Which wood species are best for hand carving
- How to transfer a design from paper to wood
- How to use hand carving tools (chip carving knife and #5 Gouge) to create a relief of a flower
- A variety of cuts & techniques for each tool
- Strategies for how to achieve depth in your design
- How to approach a reductive method of sculpting
- Guidance on where to buy tools if you choose to continue your wood carving journey
Caroline is a wood carver specializing in relief carvings using hand tools, a CNC router table, and responsibly sourced wood wherever possible.
