Aluminum TIG Welding for Beginners w/ Dylan (3hr Workshop)
About this Event
NO PREREQUISITE REQUIRED
This is SHOP 162, and while I highly recommend you take the SHOP 160 steel and SHOP 161 stainless classes, this class does not require a prerequisite. All my welding classes are made to accomodate beginners.
Having said that, aluminum welding is more difficult than carbon steel and stainless so expect a challenging class if coming in cold.
In this class, you’ll be introduced to the art of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, or GTAW. You'll be walked through the machine, its settings and capabilities, as well as proper safety. Students will practice using both hands in sync to get the perfect rythm for achieving clean, solid welds.
Each student will recieve 1/4" aluminum coupons they will tack into a formation with 4 of the major welding joints, the Fillet, Lap, Butt, and Corner Joints, to expose you to the most common joints in metal fabrication.
Students will rotate between 2-3 different machines to learn the nuances between models and foot pedal types, as well as the difference between an air cooled welding machine and a water cooled welding machine.
With the fine control of TIG welding you'll have the power to create sleek, strong and clean welds on aluminum!
By the end of this class, you’ll walk away with newfound skills, a cool practice piece to take home, and the confidence to take on your next welding adventure.
As part of the SHOP162 course, you'll learn:
- The fundamentals of TIG welding (from settings to technique)
- Safety tips for a smooth, safe welding experience
- How to weld a variety of metals with precision (this class will be aluminum only!)
- The 4 major joints designs and techniques
Grab your gloves, ignite your imagination, and let’s spark some creativity together! Whether you're building functional pieces or just enjoying the art of welding, Clear Creek Makerspace is the place to light up your potential. Let’s weld! 🔥

I’m originally from Southern California, and escaped to the great state of Colorado in 2021. I'm a Marine Corps veteran, and once I got out I needed a change of pace, and went straight to welding school, then right into high end custom fabrication working on things like ornate staircases, handrails, range hoods, even a 20ft tall rotating wine rack.
When I'm not welding, my partner and I have a side business, D&L Custom Threads, making custom embroidered patches, mainly for several chapters of a combat veteran's motorcycle association. I've always loved making and fixing things, and in this class, I'd like to share my passion for melting metal together with the angry wall pixies! My other interests include compound archery, hiking, camping, and generally everything the great outdoor state of CO offers.
