Join Maitri Youth Convention on Sunday, February 8th, from 2 to 4 PM @ Cupertino Public Library. Spend an afternoon with community youth discussing - Youth & Mental Health.Students will learn from our expert Key note speaker - Dr. Shalini Dayal, & Guest speaker - Dr. Preet Sabharwal, network with other youth, share their thoughts at an open mic, and get volunteer hours.
Shalini Dayal is a therapist who works closely with children, teens, parents, and families to strengthen communication, build emotional resilience, and support healthy development. Her work focuses on helping young people navigate stress, identity, and relationships while empowering parents with practical, compassionate tools.
She is also the co-founder of BASANTNow, a community mental health platform dedicated to increasing mental health awareness and access through workshops, outreach, and public education—particularly within underserved communities.
Dr. Preet Kaur Sabharwal is a licensed clinical psychologist and has spent the past eight years at The Hume Center’s South Asian Community Health Promotion Services, supporting Punjabi youth, adults, and families through culturally responsive care. A founder of the South Asian Mental Health Consortium and recipient of the AAPA Early Career Award, Dr. Sabharwal is a national leader in South Asian mental health advocacy. Her work centers on breaking mental health stigma and expanding access through outreach, psychoeducation, and language-based services.
