The Main Street Cemetery Restoration Initiative
Today, we are proud to launch a community-wide effort to preserve one of Easthampton’s oldest and most historic landmarks.
For nearly 245 years, the Main Street Cemetery has been the final resting place of generations of Easthampton families, including veterans who served our nation from the American Revolution through modern conflicts. Together, we have the opportunity—and the responsibility—to preserve this irreplaceable piece of our community’s history for future generations.
This initiative is made possible through the partnership of community volunteers, the Easthampton Rod & Gun Club, Easthampton American Legion Post 224, Gravestone Guardians, Inc., local organizations, businesses, and generous supporters.

Whether you can give a few hours or commit to the entire project, your help is needed and appreciated.
No experience is necessary. Professional training in proper gravestone preservation techniques will be provided by Gravestone Guardians, Inc.

🪦 MAIN STREET CEMETERY PRESERVATION PROJECT KICKOFF
This marks the official kickoff of our community cemetery restoration project.
Stone Cleaning Volunteers Needed
We are seeking 16 dedicated volunteers (8 teams of 2) to become our initial gravestone preservation teams.
Volunteers selected for stone cleaning must be willing to participate in hands-on training and work with a partner using nationally accepted gravestone preservation methods.
This is not a one-day volunteer opportunity. Restoration will take place over multiple workdays throughout the project, and we are looking for individuals willing to make a meaningful commitment to preserving this historic cemetery.
Once trained, these volunteers will also help train future volunteers as the project continues to grow.
Landscaping Volunteers Needed
We are also looking for volunteers to assist with landscaping, brush removal, and general beautification throughout the cemetery.
The more volunteers we have, the more we can accomplish together.
Looking Ahead
Future phases of the project will include additional volunteer training, gravestone straightening, and continued preservation work. Additional information will be shared as those phases approach.

Any funds remaining upon completion of the project will be donated to the City of Easthampton to establish or support a fund dedicated to the continued care and upkeep of the Main Street Cemetery.

A sponsorship of $500 or more will be donated directly to Gravestone Guardians, Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, where it will be used exclusively for the repair and restoration of historic gravestones within the Main Street Cemetery.
