About this Event
For over a decade, Little Forks Conservancy has been monitoring the water quality of the Cedar River with the help of dedicated volunteers. Using macroinvertebrate specimens collected during our bi-annual stream sampling events, we can assess river health, and you can be part of it!
What are macroinvertebrates? They are defined as animals you can see with the naked eye that have no backbone. We specifically collect insects, most often in their nymph and larval stages.
Join us for Macros and Flies on Monday, May 18th, from 5:30β7:30 PM at the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library's Community Room, where participants will:
- Learn what macroinvertebrates are and their important role within waterways
- Learn how to identify macroinvertebrates commonly found in our local rivers
- Help identify specimens collected during our Spring Stream Sampling event
- Discover the art of fly tying from local experts, using macroinvertebrates as models
This hands-on event is recommended for ages 12+, and all kids under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Supplies provided for attendees. Registration is required.
This event is in partnership with the Grace A Dow Memorial Library and the Leon P Martuch Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
