Join Surgeons Hall Museums Senior Research Fellow Professor Ken Donaldson for this beginners guide to toxicologyJoin us for this bite sized lunch time talk exploring the history of medicine.
Toxicology is the study of how poisons work and how to understand the risks they pose. In this talk Professor Ken Donaldson, Senior Research Fellow in the Museum, will discuss the basics of Toxicology and how our everyday environment may affect our health.
It’s difficult to open a newspaper or a news site these days and not find a story about poisoning, people being made sick by ‘chemicals’. These stories often discuss substances like pesticides, asbestos, lead, mercury, allergens, nerve agents, air pollution and can be difficult to put into perspective for the non-expert. The talk introduces the basic concepts of toxicology -exposure, dose, hazard, and risk, to enable the person in the street to better understand the risks they run living in a world that seems to be awash with toxins.
Talks will last approximately 30 mins and there will be tea and coffee available for ticket holders.
