About this Event
Join us at the library to celebrate the Lunar New Year and welcome the Year of the Wood Snake! This event will take place from 4–7:30 PM and is packed with exciting activities for all ages:
Crafts and Mooncakes (4–7 PM): Create your own dancing lion puppet to join the lion dance performance at 7 PM! While you craft, enjoy traditional mooncakes—a delicious treat enjoyed during New Year celebrations.
Snake Show (6 PM): Don’t miss Bwana Iguana’s incredible snake show! Learn about these fascinating creatures in an interactive and engaging presentation.
Lion Dance Performance (7 PM): Chinese lion dance is a festive, cultural performance combining the movement and spirit of kung fu with drumming and other percussion instruments. It symbolizes fostering positivity and the warding away of negative energy. Lion dance is especially significant at Lunar New Year. The feeding and sharing of “good-luck lettuce” during the performance represents the spreading of good wishes to all in attendance.
The Rhode Island Kung Fu & Lion Dance Club is a non-profit 501c3 cultural & martial arts group practicing kung fu & Chinese lion dance in the Providence-area and beyond. They are thrilled to bring this dynamic and meaningful tradition to the library for the Year of the Snake.
Bring your friends, enjoy some mooncakes, and help us celebrate the Lunar New Year with joy and community!
