Acclaimed musician and composer Ludi Hinrichs will present an afternoon of original music and inspired collaborations at his Spring Concert on Sunday, May 24 at 3:00 PM in the Stone Hall at the Miners Foundry Cultural Center. Hinrichs says, "Spring feels like an invitation to boundless creativity - magic that comes alive in improvisation, where expression is at its most pure."
Known for his deeply expressive compositions and genre-blending style, Hinrichs has been developing new material specifically for this performance. The concert will feature a rich and varied program, including music set to the poetry of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Myrtle G. Burger, and other literary voices. Drawing from a wide emotional and stylistic palette, the performance will explore themes reflective of the current moment—both intimate and expansive in scope.
Audiences can expect a compelling mix of gospel-infused pieces, jazz originals, and what Hinrichs describes as “Bach-influenced trombone discourse”—a nod to both classical tradition and inventive modern interpretation. The program highlights Hinrichs’ distinctive ability to weave together diverse musical languages into a cohesive and engaging experience.
Hinrichs’ work reflects a lifelong dedication to musical exploration. He has collaborated with pioneering minimalist composer and pianist Terry Riley and Pulitzer Prize–winning poet Gary Snyder, experiences that inform the depth and breadth of his artistic voice. His compositions often bridge the gap between structured forms and improvisational freedom, inviting listeners into a space that is both grounded and adventurous. Influenced by classical composers as well as American roots traditions and jazz, his music resonates with a wide range of audiences.
In addition to his solo work, Hinrichs will be joined by two guest performers, Matt Langley on sax, and Gordon Hellegers on kora, adding further depth and texture to the afternoon’s program. These collaborations promise moments of spontaneity and interplay, hallmarks of Hinrichs’ live performances.
The setting of the Stone Hall at the Miners Foundry Cultural Center provides an ideal acoustic and aesthetic environment for this performance. With its historic character and intimate atmosphere, the venue enhances the connection between artist and audience—an essential element of Hinrichs’ approach to live music.
This Spring Concert offers a unique opportunity to experience new work from a seasoned and innovative artist in a setting that celebrates creativity and community. Whether drawn by poetry, jazz, gospel, or classical influences, attendees can expect an afternoon of thoughtful, engaging, and memorable music.
