About this Event
February holidays got you down? Or maybe you’re floating on clouds and bursting to tell about it? Either way, this class is for you! When it comes to writing poems, love and rage can be the best places to start. In this workshop, co-sponsored by RHINO Poetry, Hive Center for the Book Arts, and the Evanston Public Library, we’ll be reading and writing odes and anti-odes, love poems and rage poems, from the hilarious to the reverently grateful.
Feel free to join us at 5:30 for an optional happy/unhappy hour, and then we’ll sit down together at 6:00 to read and write for 90 minutes. All levels of writing experience welcome and appreciated, though some of the poems might be unsuitable for younger participants.
All participants will receive a copy of Ross Gay’s Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude as well as a copy of Joshua Bennett’s Owed.
The workshop will be taught by Ann Hudson, senior editor for RHINO Poetry and teaching artist for Hive Center for the Book Arts. Hudson is the author of three poetry collections, most recently Subtraction Isn’t Always Less (Next Page Press, 2024). Her poems have appeared in many literary journals, including Crab Orchard Review, North American Review, Orion, Prairie Schooner, and The Seattle Review. She has received residencies from Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and the Midwest Writing Center, and was the finalist for a Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg poetry prize.
