About this Event
This will be the first event where Lorraine McCall has talked about her life intertwined with all her mountain adventures. Come and listen to how this amazing woman has walked every mountain in Scotland and all the adventures she had in between.
Before Lorraine tells her story, there will be a short introduction from Connecting Carers about the work they do, offering some of the Highlands most resilient people a break from their caring roles.
This is not only a story about Lorraine’s latest adventure walking all the Grahams in a continuous journey, she will also touch on her earlier adventures in the Scottish mountains. This is a life story about the joys, hardships and possibilities life can throw at us and how one woman took it all on and came out smiling.
Lorraine undertook her first solo expedition nearly 20 years ago when she turned 40 walking all the Munros in a continuous journey. Ten years later she completed all the Corbetts in a similar fashion, and now in her 60th year, she has just completed a world first, a journey over all the Graham Mountains in one continual push, cycling and walking around 4000 miles and with over 600000 feet of ascent, much bigger than a Munro journey. During this period Lorraine overcame cancer 3 times. Her third journey was the toughest. Before she started the challenge, her body had been through so much, and with one of the worst summers to walk in the hills, it was in for a lot more...however, she completed it with her usual grit, good humour and stoicism .. She is the only person to ever achieve this and knows the mountains of Scotland intimately. She takes on every adventure with a smile and comes home with so many stories to tell -the mistakes are some of the best bits. The charm of Lorraine McCall is she is like all of us and that is why her story is so captivating -A life well lived!
"Doing the Grahams round has been one of the toughest journeys of my life and the one I am proudest of." (Lorraine McCall)
