About this Event

The objective is this workshop is to get students out of their comfort zone, to loosen up their self-expression muscles, and to draw in a new way. Using guided exercises the student will learn how to lay down watercolors in a painting and then go over them with colored pencils to create loose and fresh works of urban sketching.

Special attention will be paid to knowing and correctly combining colored pencils. Students will discover new and original ways of creating expressive drawings through colored spots and lines. They will learn how to combine colors using complementary and toned colors.

Santi is a great lover of fresh, emotional, colorful drawings and especially ones that could have been created by a child. He is currently teaching urban sketching at a private university in Barcelona and he regularly participates in travel sketchbook festivals. Join this workshop to experience his exciting approach to urban sketching.

No experience is necessary for this workshop - all students are welcome.

The workshop will begin with introductions and orientation to the materials that will be used, followed by short exercises. The first exercise will focus on visual memory, learning to look and interpret; the second will warm up the hand and help release and relax the brain; and the third will be on color discrimination - learning to think about and control color combinations and how to apply them.

The exercises will be followed by a short review and then artists will have over an hour of sketching time to apply what they have learned in creating a more complex drawing. The instructor will make the rounds of students to give individual advice and feedback. The workshop will end with a review of student work and comments.
