Looking Back, Looking Forward: LGBTQ+ Equalities
Come join us at The Boardwalk for an engaging event focused on LGBTQ+ equality. This interactive event will involve co-creating a visual timeline of LGBTQ+ history, including mapping legal, social, cultural and personal moments.
We will then have a short Q&A with some wonderful guests from the University of Strathclyde and LGBT Health and Wellbeing.
Then, toward the end of the event, we will work to create a futures wall. The futures wall will feature our commitments, hopes and dreams for the future of LGBTQ+ equalities work in Scotland and beyond.
Light refreshments provided (tea, coffee, juice, biscuits)
Organisers:
Kayleigh Charlton
Kayleigh Charlton is a researcher at the University of Strathclyde, and is interested in studying topics of gender, sexuality and (in)justice! Her work has typically revolved around women's prisons, but more recently has extended to working with children and young people in conflict with the law.
Yvette Taylor
Yvette Taylor is interested in social inequalities, and often researches on class, gender and sexuality specifically, publishing (Pluto, 2023), with the edited collection (Bloomsbury, forthcoming in 2026) available open access! Yvette works at the University of Strathclyde and teaches Queer Social Justice on the MSc Applied Gender Studies.
Jack McKinley
Jack McKinlay is a PhD researcher at the University of Strathclyde studying disabled-queer student experiences in Scottish higher education. Everyone welcome!
