About this Event

Please note: this event will be held in person at Glasgow Zine Library and is open to trans people only. Please only book a ticket if you can attend all sessions.

These workshops will cover the basics of coding, providing all the necessary knowledge and support to start writing your own code for your own projects, portfolios or for the fun of it! These workshops will use a specific programming language, but will cover the topics in such a way that what you learn will be applicable to lots of other technologies.

The workshops will run on these dates:

Thursday 6th November: 6:30-8:30pm

Thursday 13th November: 6:30-8:30pm

Monday 24th November (ONLINE): 6:30-8:30pm

Thursday 4th December: 6:30-8:30pm

Equipment:

Please bring your own laptop if you have one - Windows, Mac or Linux will be fine - even the lowest end computer will be fine for this sort of coding. It isn’t ideal, but it is also possible to use a smartphone or tablet to write and run code in a pinch.

There will be a very limited number of computers that can be used during the workshops, get in touch at [email protected] and we can arrange a loan for the sessions.

All software used will be freely available.

Background Knowledge:

These workshops will assume absolutely no background knowledge in coding or computing generally. Whilst all trans people are welcome, if you are already comfortable with the basics of coding then these workshops will be covering a lot of what you’ll already know.

About the event leader:

Iona Ferguson (she/her) is a lecturer in Immersive Systems Design at The Glasgow School of Art where she teaches: game design, coding and audio design and is a researcher investigating the experiences of LGBTQ+ people in computing education. She is also a solo game developer at Arboreta Games where she has released two games - The Black Iris (2021) and It Sleeps Below the Haar (2024) - and her latest title Unto the Aurora is slated for release in August 2025
