Join us for a hands-on workshop exploring the timeless art of pine needle basketry. In this introductory class, participants will learn the coiling technique using artificial sinew and recently shed longleaf pine needles from the Pebble Hill Plantation forests to create a beautiful hand-stitched basket.
During the workshop we will focus on preparing pine needles, how to start your basket with a knot start, shaping, stitching, and finishing techniques to complete a small basket. Each participant will take home their creation, confidence, and skills to be able to continue the craft independently.
Michelle is a self-taught artist with over twenty years of experience working with longleaf pine needles and other natural materials to create a more sculptural body of work. Her work has been shown in juried art exhibitions, regional galleries, and she has taught workshops and events such as the Mountain Longleaf Festival hosted by Jacksonville State University. Each class is an opportunity to share not only a skill but the ability to connect with nature, art, and tradition. She is honored to guide new students as they shape their own baskets and perhaps begin their own journey into this timeless art.

All supplies and materials are provided. No previous experience necessary just bring your creativity and patience.
Class size is limited to six students for individual attention. There is an age limit of 18 years of age or older due to the complexity of holding materials and tension needed while stitching.
